Update
Jorge Luis fills me in on Tony Luis' two fights in Scotland.
Tony's first fight is with the Senior National Champion, who was a
quarter finalist in the Commonwealth Games. Tony loses by 1 point,
and as Jorge Luis tells me, "I thought Tony won". Jorge asked
for a rematch, but was turned down.
Tony's second fight was with the Junior National Champion.
Tony fought well and took all three rounds for the win.

Junior
& Senior (Male & Female) Open Class
Provincial Championships - Sarnia,
ON.
Nov 25-27, 2005
The provincials were hosted by the Bluewater Boxing Club,
including organizers/coaches Tom Hennessey, Dutch Friedman, Dave Crowe,
and all who were involved. Great Venue! Great Ontario Provincials!
The great majority of those who attended the provincials
made their way through a snow storm Thursday Nov. 24th 2005. Seems
like every year it likes to snow just in time for the provincials.
Go figure!
Jorge Luis and
Alain Cardinal had a busy weekend at the Junior Provincials. Not
only did they work their boxers corner but that of other boxers.
Special thanks to Alain Cardinal
for taking these photos and supplying me with the coverage of events...

Friday night was a busy night for
Jorge Luis and Alain Cardinal of Champs Eastside in (Cornwall, On.)
starting with their own Tony Luis. Tony (blue) weighing in at 57
Kg. boxed Josh Cameron of Border City Boxing Club. This was a good
evenly matched bout with the decision going to Tony Luis (23-19).
Josh proved to be a strong competitor in a bout that could have gone
either way.

Saturday night Tony Luis (blue) wins gold against Jerry
Green-Byrne of (E. Windsor, ON.) 31-20. "We pushed Tony hard for
this one, to say the least" says Alain. Tony scored clean blows,
worked the middle of the ring, and used his experience to win this
bout. Chuck Steward had told Alain earlier that Jerry was good for
a newly turned open class boxer. Jerry didn't disappoint us as his
mom was cheering him on from the floor.

Joey Bowman (red) of Champs Eastside in (Cornwall, ON.)
loses to Padraic Griffith of Big Time Boxing in (Orangeville, ON.)
by disqualification in the 4th round. This is Joey's first year as
a junior, and as boxers progress from cadet to junior, you will come
up against boxers who are stronger. When you come up against one of
Bryon Mackie's guys or girls you are in for a fight as they are skilled,
in top shape, and most of all never lack heart.

Matt Veenstra (red) of Champs Eastside Boxing in (Cornwall,
ON.) loses to Richard Chau of (London, ON.). Matt boxed aggressively,
but disciplined against an experienced opponent. All agreed including
Mr. Chau that Matt will benefit from this experience. Richard Chau
went on to win gold.
Brad
Brooks in the (red) of (Belleville, ON.) weighing in at 57 Kg. in the
Senior Male class defeats Fred Carleton of (St. Catherines, ON.) in
the third round by disqualification.
Brad would go on to lose to Jessie Ennis of (Windsor,
ON.).

CONGRATULATIOS to Linda Ludwig for boxing three time
over the course of the weekend to take home the gold, and earning the
title of BEST SENIOR FEMALE BOXER.

We
watched our friend Steve Marsh (red) of Belleville, ON. lose to gold
medal winner Richard Chau of (London, ON.) by a score of 23-8 in the
60 Kg. Senior Male catagory.

Alain Cardinal (left) with Bryon Mackie of Orangeville,
ON. Bryon is a pro Light Middleweight boxer with a record of 22 wins
(8 KO's) and 12 loses, and presently ranked 60th in the world out of
956.

Alain Cardinal (right) with Fitz Vanderpool pro Light
Middleweight boxer with a record of 22 wins (13 KO's) with 7 loses
and 4 draws.

Tony Luis (left) with Steve Molitor of Sarnia, ON. who
is the Canadian Super Bantamweight Champion. Steve is a southpaw with
a record of 22 wins (8 KO's) no loses,
and presently ranked 30th in the world out of 669. Now that is impressive!
