Jackie
Travellina of Uncle Sam's Boxing (Plattsburg, NY.) in the green &
white trunks defeats Martine Bisson of the Gale Kerwin Boxing (Ottawa,
ON.) in an action packed bout. These girls fought hard with lots of
exchanges, the better punches and combinations coming from Jackie who
was the more technical fighter. Martine would move in quickly, but without
the use of a good jab allowed Jackie to take advantage by going to the
body, then the head. This bout was indeed a crowd pleaser.

Mian Hussain of Hard Knox Boxing
(Montreal, QC.) in the black trunks defeats Tony St. Jacques of Kingston
Youth Boxing (Kingston, ON.). This was a good action bout on the part
of both fighters with Mian proving to be too much for Tony who had already
received two standing eight counts. By the second round the fight would
be stopped leaving Tony with a bloodied nose. Even though Tony was losing
the war of exchanges, give this kid credit for hanging in there and
battling it out.

Matt (Mad dog) Veenstra of Champs
Eastside (Cornwall, ON.) stops Dany Audet of KO 96 Boxing (Victoriaville,
QC.) in a second round TKO. The moment Matt made his way to the ring
it was obvious the this local kid was a home town favorite. This bout
was a great display of what a good action packed, hard hitting fight
is all about. These two guy's went to war and from what I saw Dany Audet
was one tough customer. Matt also received an award for most promising
boxer as chosen by Jim Riddell of the (Seaway Karate Club)

Danny Sylvester of Gale Kerwin Boxing
(Ottawa, ON.) in the black trunks defeats Luke Federov of Belleville
Boxing (Belleville, ON.). Luke gets a fast start by landing crisp jabs
and good combinations while Danny walks into most of them. I had Luke
winning early in the bout, but to my surprise Danny came back strong
for the win in the later rounds. These two guy's put on a good show
with lots of action.

Mitch Blais of Champs Eastside (Cornwall,
ON.) in the red defeats Hughes Filiault of KO-96 (Victoriaville, QC.)
in a great action packed back and forth bout. Both fighters performed
well with good exchanges coming from both fighters. Mitch went on the
attack early scoring some good body shots and then going to the head.
This was a good fast paced bout which earned Mitch best bout of the
day as chosen by Jim Riddell of the (Seaway Karate Club)

Joey Bowman of Champs Eastside (Cornwall,
ON.) in the black trunks defeats Jean Philip Cyr of Adams Boxing (Laval,
QC.) in an aggressive three rounder. This is not the first time these
two boxers have gone head to head. I had Jean Philip leading early on
with Joey trying too hard to land those big power punches with Jean
Philip stepping back and Joey losing his balance, paying the canvas
a visit. As Joey became more patient his punches seemed to find the
zone which led to the victory.

THE MAIN EVENT
Tony Luis of Champs Eastside (Cornwall,
ON.) in the red goes toe to toe with Brad Brooks of Belleville Boxing
(Belleville, ON. to become the new Eastern Ontario Featherweight Champion.
This was a non stop five round display of amateur boxing at it's best.
I have seen Brad fight many a time and knew that Tony was in for a hard
fight. I caught up with Tony after the fight and asked him what he thought
of the bout. Tony "I have fought some tough fights and some tough
opponents, but this is the toughest fight I have fought to date. This
guy makes you work and won't stop advancing. He is always on you, a
non stop punching machine". Jorge Luis' exact words to me after
the fight "This kid (Brad) is made of cement". I asked Jorge
if he was pleased with Tony's performance. Jorge with a big smile on
his face "Tony is ready for the Canadian Championships in January".
The featherweight championship belt
is on it's way from Belleville, and when it arrives you can bet we will
have a photo of Tony wearing it proudly as it was well earned...
